Why College?

I have always been raised by a family who strongly emphasized the point of going to college. So, I have gone through my childhood and teenage years with the thought in the back of my mind being, i am going to college. The question was never if I'm going to college. But rather, where I am going to college and what I am going to study when I get there. Ever since middle school I have always contemplated what I wanted to go into as a college profession. My mind seemed to changed on a regular basis and I was unsure of what my true interests where. I did not realize that i wanted to go into the field of Psychology until the end of my junior year in high school. I always enjoyed helping my friends with their problems and being the one to listen and give advice. This is when I thought that I would enjoy doing this for a living. My first thought was going more towards counseling pyschology. But, towards the end of my senior year I discovered sports psychology. Since I have personally been through an injury and went through ten years of gymnastics and cheerleading, understand what it is like to have a mental block. I would help the girls on my gymnastics team work through their struggles. The more I thought about it, did my research and helped the girls, I realized that this is what I wanted to go into. I entered college not knowing exactly what I was hoping to expect. I just wanted to learn more about myself and the field of psychology and go wherever my experiences take me. Since being in college for the last couple of months, I have definitely learned a lot about myself and I am sure that this is where I need to be. I am enjoying learning more and more about the field of psychology and I am hoping to get more involved with the program and begin my journey.
