When I went back to school to become a nurse practitioner, I envisioned myself in a family practice setting. I began working at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center as a Research Nurse for cardiac surgery while attending school. Caring for patients with heart disease changed my plans, and I knew this was where I wanted to invest my self as an advanced practice nurse. That was four years ago, although it seems like yesterday. I enjoy meeting patients from Ohio and surrounding states, sent by cardiologists to OSUWMC because they are often high-risk patients for open heart surgery. Seeing patients come through cardiac surgery successfully is rewarding. OSUWMC's mission includes patient-centered care, research and education. As an FNP, I strive to provide excellent patient-centered care and education. As a DNP, I hope to add that research to my practice. My goals include conducting research to reduce cardiovascular disease risk in patients with known atherosclerotic heart disease through interactive computerbased communication.
